A quarter-century after readers first discovered the genius young criminal mastermind and the hidden world of fairies beneath the surface of reality, Artemis Fowl is making its way back into the spotlight.

The bestselling fantasy book franchise by Irish author Eoin Colfer has been greenlit as an animated television series for Disney Channel and Disney+, bringing a fresh adaptation of the beloved story to a new generation of viewers.

The announcement was made during the “25 Years of Artemis Fowl” panel at New York Comic Con, where Colfer shared that he will serve as an executive producer on the project. The author is expected to help expand the characters, mythology and magical universe that have captured the imagination of readers worldwide.

First published in 2001, Artemis Fowl follows 13-year-old Artemis Fowl II, a brilliant young strategist who discovers the existence of an advanced underground fairy civilization. Driven by a desire to save his family, Artemis sets out on a risky mission that brings him face-to-face with a world filled with magic, technology and unexpected alliances.

The upcoming animated adaptation will be executive produced by Colfer alongside award-winning animation creatives Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson, whose previous projects include Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Big Hero 6: The Series, DuckTales and Monsters at Work.

Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the series offers an opportunity to introduce Artemis’ story to younger audiences while honoring longtime fans who have followed the books for years.

“For more than two decades, Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl books have captivated readers around the world with unforgettable characters, imaginative world-building, and gripping adventures,” Davis said.

Since the release of the first novel, the Artemis Fowl series has become a global publishing success, selling more than 35 million copies worldwide and being translated into 48 languages.

The animated series joins Disney+’s growing lineup of fantasy and adventure titles, including upcoming adaptations such as Kingdom Hearts, Warrior Cats and Journey, as the platform continues to expand its offerings for younger audiences and families.
