BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Cordillera Regional Field Office has issued an advisory on the alleged distribution of repacked hybrid yellow corn seeds to farmers in the region.

The advisory covers corn growers in Kalinga and Paracelis, Mountain Province. DA officials recently convened a dialogue in Paracelis with representatives of seed provider Syngenta and local government officials from the affected municipalities to discuss the reports and review the seed distribution process.

The DA clarified that the hybrid yellow corn seed sacks distributed in Kalinga and Paracelis were re-stitched, not repacked.

Syngenta said the sacks were opened only for mandatory quality testing and sampling under standard protocols coordinated with the Bureau of Plant Industry.

The seed company has assigned technicians to conduct field inspections in affected areas, including Rizal and Tabuk City in Kalinga, to address concerns and verify the condition of the distributed seeds.

Agricultural authorities reminded farmers to report farm-related concerns to their respective local agriculture offices or DA regional field representatives for proper assessment and action.
