BAGUIO CITY — A university in Baguio City is investigating allegations of sexual assault involving one of its faculty members after an anonymous open letter was published on social media.

In a statement, the University of Baguio (UB) administration said that while it acknowledges the report, it has not yet received a formal complaint regarding the alleged incident. The university stressed that it takes the allegation seriously and prioritizes the safety and well-being of the individual involved.

The open letter, which was posted on social media, went viral after the author claimed that a university professor had raped a student. The anonymous author described the faculty member as being affiliated with the College of Education, or the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA), and as being involved in university sports. Neither the author nor the accused professor was publicly identified.

According to the post, the author endured months of guilt before deciding to speak out. The writer also alleged that other students had experienced similar harassment from the same individual and claimed that previous attempts to inform the university administration had received no response. The post did not include police reports, formal records, or other supporting documents.

The university emphasized that reports of sexual violence or abuse are handled through designated bodies, such as its Complaint Handling Office and the Committee on Decorum and Investigation.

However, the administration clarified that no official report has been filed through these institutional channels, preventing the university from initiating formal fact-finding or protective procedures.

The university said this clarification was not intended to invalidate the allegation but to explain its current operational status. It added that efforts are underway to safely contact the author, offer institutional support, and initiate formal proceedings.
