Actress Kyline Alcantara candidly shared her experience of becoming a victim of an online scam, revealing how a seemingly legitimate text message led to unauthorized transactions from her bank account.
During her guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Kyline recalled receiving a text message that appeared to come from her bank, warning her of a supposed issue with her account. Trusting the message, she clicked the attached link, unaware that it would redirect her to a fraudulent website.
“Meron pong email and text message na may link po. Ang nakalagay po do’n sa text message is parang may problema daw po sa aking banko, so click this link para maayos. So, I clicked it, and then parang nagpunta po sa ibang website, so inalis ko na lang po siya agad. And then when I checked the bank app, biglang parang nabawasan ’yung pera ko, ’yun na po pala ’yon,” she recounted.
Host Boy Abunda then asked whether the amount lost reached the hundreds of thousands of pesos. Kyline clarified that while it was below that figure, the financial loss was still significant.
“Under naman po pero malaki pa rin po ’yon. Jusko! Pangkuryente ko po ’yon eh!” she said.
Kyline’s story serves as a timely reminder for the public to remain vigilant against phishing scams, as cybercriminals continue to imitate banks and other trusted institutions through fake messages and websites designed to steal personal and financial information.
