LAMITAN CITY, Basilan province — The city government took pride in declaring on Tuesday, that Lamitan is now officially a 3rd Class Component City of Basilan, a milestone that reflects its improved local income and economic performance, and a greater capacity to serve.
Mayor Roderick H. Furigay said the new classification of the city “means more funds for infrastructure, social programs, education and disaster preparedness.”
Additionally, he said “It also means more opportunities for our youth, our farmers, our fisherfolk, and our entrepreneurs,” he said.
Lamitan has earned its 7th Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award, a true reflection of its commitment to excellence, accountability and inclusive service, Furigay said.
This year, the city government is committed to continuing to achieve the SGLG standards, not for the sake of awards, but for something far more meaningful: To make government work where it matters most, he explained.
He noted that these recognitions are not just plaques or certificates, “they are reflections of a government that listens, adapts and delivers.”
