  • A 69-year-old man was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City, after authorities discovered in his possession more or less 1.5 grams of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia on Thursday, 17 September.

The passenger was intercepted while preparing to travel from Manila to Davao after an X-ray screening of his belt bag revealed suspicious images. A subsequent manual inspection led to the discovery of a heat-sealed plastic container containing a white crystalline substance and suspected drug paraphernalia.

The items were subjected to validation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). A K9 inspection indicated the possible presence of dangerous drugs, while a field test using a Rigaku Raman spectrometer yielded a positive result for methamphetamine hydrochloride.

The suspect and the confiscated evidence were placed under the custody of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) Operations Center for proper documentation and filing of appropriate charges under Sections 5 and 12 of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
