Sanya Lopez believes that heartbreak should not be seen as a loss, but as an experience that can help people grow and become stronger.
The actress-singer shared that one of the biggest lessons behind her latest musical project is the importance of loving sincerely, even when things do not turn out the way people hope.
“What I really hope is that everyone who listens to ‘Laro,’ especially those who are going through heartbreak, will realize that it’s okay. I hope this helps them move forward and remind them that everything they went through was part of the process. I also hope this song reminds everyone that there’s nothing wrong with loving. There’s nothing wrong with giving your heart to someone, even if it didn’t work out. Hindi ibig sabihin na may kulang sa iyo (it doesn't mean that something is lacking in you). Sometimes, that experience is exactly what helps you grow into a stronger and better version of yourself,” she said.
For Sanya, the song reflects the reality of relationships where one person gives their all, only to discover that the other person may not be the right one for them.
“At that time, I was recording a Japanese song for Pulang Araw and while I was on standby, Ms. Rocky talked to me about doing another single,” she recalled. “I told her that if I were to make another song, I wanted it to be about situationships or relationships that a lot of people can relate to. The kind where you gave your whole heart to someone, you genuinely loved that person, but in the end, you realize that they weren’t the right person for you. You end up asking yourself, ‘Why did this person have to come into my life if we weren’t meant for each other?’”
Sanya said she wanted the song to reflect the emotions that come with accepting that some relationships are only meant to become part of a person’s journey.
To prepare for the emotional performance, the Kapuso star underwent vocal coaching before entering the recording booth. She explained that beyond improving her technique, understanding the story behind the song was essential in delivering its message.
“Before we recorded ‘Laro,’ they gave me a vocal coach who really helped me prepare for the song. We worked on my voice so I could sing it better and gain more confidence,” she shared. “But more than anything, I really tried to understand the story behind ‘Laro’ and sing it with the right emotions. For me, it’s not just about hitting the notes; it’s about making people feel the message of the song.”
Through the song’s message, Sanya hopes listeners who are dealing with heartbreak will realize that failed relationships do not lessen their worth.
She added that every experience, even the painful ones, can become a stepping stone toward becoming a stronger version of oneself.
