Police apprehended an armed robbery suspect less than two hours after a daylight attack in Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City on Tuesday morning.
At 7 a.m, a 54-year-old businessman was targeted on Coronado Street by two motorcycle-riding assailants attempting to steal a P333,000 gold necklace.
During the struggle, the suspects crashed their motorcycle; the perpetrator then brandished a firearm at the victim before fleeing toward Maysilo Circle.
Following the report at 12:05 p.m., Mandaluyong City police immediately activated a specialized response unit. Leveraging real-time field intelligence, officers tracked and cornered the armed suspect on the same street where the crime occurred.
The suspect was positively identified by the victim and is currently undergoing inquest proceedings at the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Anthony Aberin underscored that this operation serves as a blueprint for the command’s modern, aggressive enforcement strategy.
"Our response to violent street crime is never static—it is immediate and deliberate," Aberin said.
"We do not wait for the trail to go cold; we deploy intelligence-led tactics to dismantle threats the moment they emerge. This arrest sends a clear, uncompromising message: those who threaten the safety of our citizens will be hunted down and held accountable. Our commitment to securing our streets is absolute," the NCRPO chief added.
