Former Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco has broken her silence on weeks of speculation surrounding the Miss Earth organization, denying allegations against her and urging the public to verify information before believing online claims.
In a lengthy Facebook statement, Ibasco said purpose has always guided her journey and that she remains committed to responding with "diplomacy and professionalism."
She also expressed concern over the spread of misinformation on social media.
"It is disappointing to see fake news rampantly spread especially on social media," she said, stressing the importance of fact-checking and responsible use of digital platforms.
Ibasco reaffirmed her gratitude to the Miss Earth organization, saying the pageant played a significant role in her career.
"I will never be where I am apart from the Miss Earth organization. They will always have my love and respect," she wrote.
She clarified that she holds no position within the organization and has no involvement in planning competitions or making decisions.
"I do not have any position or power in the organization to make any decisions. I do not know the production, program, format or questions ahead of time for the coronation night," she said.
Ibasco also denied allegations that she influenced the decision not to give outgoing Miss Philippines Earth Joy Barcoma a farewell walk, saying she only learned about it a day before the coronation.
"The day before the MPE coronation was the only time I learned that Joy wouldn't have one. I can't do anything but respect the organization's decision because it was already final," she said.
She likewise rejected claims that she opposed another Filipina winning the Miss Earth crown, recalling that she attended the Miss Earth 2025 finals to support Barcoma.
"When I won in 2017, all the past queens were there to support me, and it meant the world seeing them all there. I wanted that for Joy if ever she won the crown," she said.
Addressing criticism over a viral video after Miss Earth 2025, Ibasco said her comments were intended as constructive analysis based on her experience as an image consultant and former titleholder.
She also clarified that recent social media posts attributed to the controversy were personal reflections and were not directed at Barcoma.
"I carefully craft content to post for the purpose of growth and learning. They are my personal take on things, not toward somebody," she said.
Ibasco ended her statement by urging the public not to judge based on assumptions or speculation and congratulated newly crowned Miss Earth Philippines Rina Andrea Delos Santos while wishing Barcoma well in her future endeavors.
