One killed, one injured in shooting incident in Abra

Police are investigating the killing of one man and the wounding of another in a shooting incident on the evening of 12 January 2026, in Barangay Nangobongan, San Juan, Abra.

Authorities said the shooting occurred at around 9 p.m. but was reported to the police only at 12:32 a.m. the following day.

The fatality was identified as Eduard Talledo Montero III, a resident of Barangay Nangobongan. The injured victim was identified as Nelson Valera Alvarez, a native of Manabo, Abra, who is currently residing in the same barangay. Both victims were construction workers.

Based on the police report, the two men were drinking inside the house of a friend prior to the incident. After the drinking session, they were on their way home when unidentified suspects opened fire on them.

Montero was hit in the head and died on the spot. Alvarez was rushed to a hospital for treatment and was later released.

Responding police officers recovered 17 spent shell casings at the crime scene, believed to be from an M16 rifle.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack.
