Members of the 50th Infantry Battalion of the 503rd Infantry Brigade of the Phillipine Army (IBPA) and armed men suspected as belonging to the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) engaged in a firefight in the afternoon of 2 August 2025 at Barangay Bonglo, Licuan-Baay, Abra.
According to initial reports, the clash took place at around 1:40 p.m. in the area. The incident was officially reported to authorities at approximately 5:30 p.m. on the same day.
Initial investigations state that a platoon from the 50th Infantry Battalion Alpha Company, led by 1st Lt. Joseph M. Gabinay, was conducting a combat operation when they encountered approximately 10 armed individuals believed to be members of the ICRC, led by an unidentified leader.
