Members of the 50th Infantry Battalion of the 503rd Infantry Brigade of the Phillipine Army (IBPA) and armed men suspected as belonging to the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) engaged in a firefight in the afternoon of 2 August 2025 at Barangay Bonglo, Licuan-Baay, Abra.

According to initial reports, the clash took place at around 1:40 p.m. in the area. The incident was officially reported to authorities at approximately 5:30 p.m. on the same day.

Initial investigations state that a platoon from the 50th Infantry Battalion Alpha Company, led by 1st Lt. Joseph M. Gabinay, was conducting a combat operation when they encountered approximately 10 armed individuals believed to be members of the ICRC, led by an unidentified leader.

According to the 502rd "Peace and Justice" Brigade, the government troopers were conducting a combat operation. They encountered approximately 10 armed individuals believed to be members of the ICRC, led by an unidentified leader.

The army brigade stated that further details will be released as soon as they will be available and confirmed.
