Authorities are still searching for two young boys believed to have drowned after being swept away by a strong river current in Morong, Rizal, on Saturday afternoon.
The missing minors were identified as Gene Heinrich Dacumos, 12, and Ruben Cioseph Giray Cubilla, 10 — both residents of Mabuhay Homes Darangan in nearby Binangonan.
According to a report from the Morong Municipal Police Station, the boys were last seen near a bridge, accompanied by a 10-year-old companion who later witnessed them being carried away by the river’s current.
The witness, John Henry Dacumos, reportedly did not inform anyone at the time out of fear. He only came forward and reported the incident at around 5:30 a.m. the next day, Sunday.
In response, the Morong police coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Barangay Peace and Safety Officers, and local volunteers to launch search and retrieval operations.
A full investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
