The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it will conduct a full and impartial investigation into the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) mishap on Sunday.

In a statement, the department said the investigation will include reviewing all CCTV footage and subjecting the SUV driver to a drug test.

On the morning of 4 April, a black SUV rammed into NAIA Terminal 1. CCTV footage from the Philippine National Police showed the SUV, which had dropped off a passenger, seemingly at a full stop when it suddenly accelerated, resulting in the fatalities of a five-year-old child and a 29-year-old male.

Meanwhile, four others were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care.

In an ambush interview, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the incident was unintentional.

"I don't want to share other details for now as the investigation is ongoing. Initially, the CCTV was reviewed, and it seems that what happened wasn't intentional. We just have to find out what really happened," he said in Filipino.

The Land Transportation Office has already suspended the driver’s license for 90 days pending investigation.

Meanwhile, San Miguel Corporation has pledged to provide all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.

The DOTr urged the public to refrain from sharing footage of the incident on social media and to avoid taking advantage of the situation.
