Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) has briefed police personnel assigned to election duties on election laws, security protocols and the requirement to remain politically neutral throughout the electoral period.

PRO2 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Mariano C. Rodriguez led the orientation seminar on 25 August, attended by personnel involved in election-related operations across the Cagayan Valley region.

Rodriguez reminded police officers to maintain professionalism, impartiality and discipline while strictly observing the law in carrying out election duties.

He also stressed that police personnel must remain non-partisan while securing voters, election personnel and the public during the electoral process.

Police Colonel Alberto A. Calimag, chief of the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division, and Police Major Sharon C. Mallillin, regional public information officer, attended the activity along with members of the Sub-Task Group PCR. Chiefs of police and heads of Police Community Affairs and Development Units from provincial and city police offices joined virtually.

The seminar covered election laws, regulations and operational guidelines, including prohibited acts, election security measures and coordination between the police and other agencies involved in the elections.

Comelec Sto. Tomas, Isabela Election Officer III Bryan Tagao also discussed provisions of Comelec Resolution No. 11067, including the election gun ban and rules governing the establishment and operation of Comelec checkpoints.

The briefing also tackled the classification of election areas of concern, areas that may be placed under Comelec control and other election-related security issues.

PRO2 said the orientation was intended to prepare police personnel for their election duties and ensure that law enforcement operations are carried out impartially and in accordance with election regulations.
