The local government of Marikina City announced Tuesday that floodwaters have fully receded across the city, allowing clearing operations to begin after monsoon rains triggered a second-alarm alert along the Marikina River.

Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro reported that all families who sought refuge in the city’s 29 evacuation centers have returned home. Local teams have begun cleaning and sanitizing affected neighborhoods and public schools that served as temporary shelters.

“Clearing operations have started in communities affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon, as well as in schools that were used as evacuation centers,” Teodoro said.

To prevent waterborne diseases, Teodoro joined City Health Office doctors and personnel in Barangay Malanday to distribute vitamins and preventive anti-leptospirosis medication to residents who waded through floodwaters.

Although continuous rains pushed the Marikina River to 17.5 meters—triggering the second alarm of the city’s early warning system—Teodoro said most of the city remained dry, with only minor flooding reported in low-lying and riverside areas.
