4,709 families affected by Habagat in 16 Ilocos Sur areas

At least 4,709 families, or 16,420 individuals, have been affected by the southwest monsoon or Habagat in 16 local government units in Ilocos Sur, according to the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
As of 5 p.m. on August 31, the EOC said 150 families, or 444 individuals, had been evacuated due to the weather disturbance. Of these, 93 families, or 255 individuals, were staying in evacuation centers, while 57 families, or 189 individuals, were sheltering outside designated evacuation facilities.
The monsoon also partially damaged 12 houses, the provincial government reported.
Authorities have distributed immediate assistance to affected families, including 85 family food packs, 85 hygiene kits, 12 family kits, and 12 shelter repair kits.
Despite the ongoing response, barangay roads remained impassable in eight municipalities, while flooding was reported in seven municipalities.
Power interruptions were also reported in three municipalities as of the latest EOC update.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess the needs of affected communities as Habagat persists over the province.
