The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Zambales also assisted in the sandbagging operation to help minimize further damage caused by Typhoon Maymay.
PDRRMO-Zambales chief Rolex Estella led the team in providing support and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the dike in Barangay Sta. Fe.
“Residents came together to place sandbags along the dike and the bridge connecting their community as an immediate measure to protect the area from the rushing water coming down from the mountains,” Estella said.
Governor Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. provided relief goods to residents who participated in the sandbagging operation.
“Our office continues to respond to every challenge faced by our people, especially during the rainy season and calamities. Through unity and immediate action, we can work together to protect every Zambaleño,” Ebdane said.
Zambales is currently under a state-issued Red Rainfall Warning as the enhanced Southwest Monsoon continues to bring heavy rains and severe weather across the province.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of possible serious flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly in Subic, San Antonio, Castillejos and Olongapo.
Authorities continue to urge residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, monitor official weather updates and follow evacuation orders when necessary.
