Lawyer Levito "Levi" Baligod was ordered arrested by a Makati court in connection with two counts of cyberlibel.
The embattled lawyer, though, claimed that the case proceeded without his participation because he was allegedly not properly notified of the complaint.
The warrant is dated 15 June 2026. Acting Presiding Judge Antonio Ray Abello Ortiguera of the Regional Trial Court Branch 148 in Makati City directed law enforcement authorities to arrest Baligod and bring him before the court to answer the charges filed against him under Section 4(c)(4) of the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
The bail was pegged by the court at P20,000 for each of the two counts of cyberlibel.
It also directed arresting officers to comply with Supreme Court rules requiring the use of body-worn cameras and alternative recording devices during the implementation of warrants.
Baligod confirmed receiving a copy of the warrant and linked the charges to a complaint allegedly filed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
“Kakatanggap ko ngayon ang kopya ng Warrant of Arrest laban sa akin,” Baligod said in a social media post.
He claimed that the complainant allegedly provided an incorrect address during the preliminary investigation, resulting in his failure to receive a subpoena from prosecutors and depriving him of the opportunity to submit a counter-affidavit.
“Nakalusot ang kaso na ito ni DA Secretary Laurel Tiu dahil sadyang mali ang binigay na address ko sa piskalya, kaya naman hindi ako nakatanggap ng subpoena at hindi naka-sumite ng counter-affidavit,” he said.
The lawyer also took a swipe at his critics over the development.
He added, “Ayaw lumaban ng patas haha."
