The brother of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s former economic adviser Michael Yang has been arrested, authorities confirmed Thursday.

Yang Jian Xin, also known as Tony Yang, 54, was apprehended by operatives of the Pasay City Police Station led by Police Colonel Joselito De Sesto on 9 July at around 6:30 p.m. He was found inside a commercial building along William Street, Barangay 13, Pasay City.

Yang's arrest was based on three outstanding warrants—for falsification of public documents, perjury, and illegal use of aliases. Bail was set at P36,000 for falsification, P18,000 for perjury, and P30,000 for alias use under Commonwealth Act No. 142, as amended by Republic Act No. 6085.

The warrants were issued by Judge Eleuteria Apdian Badoles-Algodon of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities, Branch 2, Cagayan de Oro City.

RA 6085 permits the use of aliases for entertainment or athletic purposes but prohibits their use in legal or business transactions.

Yang was previously flagged by immigration officials on 19 September 2024 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 due to suspected immigration violations. He has since been linked to alleged human trafficking activities and illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) operations.

Investigations by the National Bureau of Investigation revealed that Yang used multiple aliases to establish businesses in Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.
