PCG to deploy seven mobile desalination systems to Kalayaan Island Group, Palawan

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), thru the Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDPAL), is set to deploy seven Mobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) Desalination Systems to provide safe and potable water in the isolated and remote areas of Palawan.
According to the CGDPAL, these RO Desalination Systems will help ensure access to a reliable supply of safe and potable water for Coast Guard personnel and communities in the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG) and Balabac, Palawan.
The CGDPAL stated that the initiative aims to address the water supply needs of Coast Guard personnel and nearby communities in these remote locations, particularly in areas where access to freshwater is limited.
“By providing an alternative source of potable water, the systems are expected to contribute to personnel welfare, community well-being, and the sustained conduct of Coast Guard operations.”
Each mobile desalination system utilizes reverse osmosis technology to convert seawater into potable water by removing dissolved salts and other impurities.
These units are each equipped with essential water treatment components, a generator set, and a mobile trailer-mounted structure to facilitate transportation and deployment.
This initiative also supports the PCG’s iCARE Program, reflecting the PCG's commitment to extending assistance beyond its operational mandate through meaningful community engagement and responsive public service.
Through this initiative, CGDPAL further reinforces its commitment to personnel welfare, community service, and operational readiness.
The availability of these mobile desalination systems will also strengthen the District's capability to provide potable water during Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations, particularly in communities affected by natural disasters and other emergencies, while sustaining the delivery of maritime safety, security, and environmental protection services across the far-flung areas of Palawan.
