CALABARZON seeks more foster parents

CALABARZON — The National Authority for Child Care (NACC) is appealing to qualified families in CALABARZON to consider becoming foster parents amid a shortage of licensed households available to provide temporary care for children in need of protection.
The agency reported that 74 children are currently under foster care in the region, highlighting the need to recruit additional families capable of providing safe, stable and nurturing homes.
The shortage has become a challenge for the placement of children who require immediate family-based care, with the agency reporting that there are currently no licensed foster families available to accept new placements.
Foster care provides temporary family-based care for children who cannot remain with their biological families because of circumstances affecting their safety, protection or welfare.
Unlike permanent adoption, foster care is intended to provide children with a safe and supportive home while their circumstances are being addressed. It allows them to experience family life and receive the attention and care needed for their emotional, social and developmental well-being.
The NACC is encouraging qualified individuals and couples who are willing to take on the responsibility of fostering a child to undergo the required application, assessment and screening procedures.
Prospective foster parents must demonstrate their ability to provide a safe, stable and supportive environment for children entrusted to their care.
The agency continues to promote foster care as an important alternative to institutional care, emphasizing the role of families in helping children develop and recover from difficult circumstances.
By encouraging more qualified households to become foster parents, the NACC hopes to expand the number of available homes for children who need temporary care and protection.
