Law enforcement agencies in Laos and Thailand intercepted two massive suspected shabu shipments reportedly bound for the Philippines over the past week, prompting former government officials and security analysts to demand full administrative transparency from domestic authorities.

At Luang Prabang International Airport in Laos, security forces seized 521 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at P3.5 billion last 1 October.

Laotian authorities said the narcotics were designated for transport aboard a private charter flight to Manila. The cargo was intercepted after the flight crew refused to load several uninspected bags. Thirteen individuals, including one Filipino national, were detained in connection with the shipment.

In a separate maritime operation in the Gulf of Thailand, Thai naval forces and drug enforcement units seized more than one metric ton of methamphetamine valued at 1.2 billion baht from a vessel also identified as bound for Philippine waters.

The double interception raised sharp questions among former senior government officials regarding domestic intelligence oversight and transshipment vulnerabilities.

Retired Lt. Gen. Orlando De Leon criticized the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines over their failure to publicly address the Laos flight, calling on both agencies to release the private jet’s registration logs, flight manifests, and the identity of the detained Filipino.
