House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy urged Filipinos to practice selflessness and uphold values that contribute to nation-building as the country observed National Heroes Day on Monday.
Dy emphasized the importance of honoring the legacy of Filipino heroes by embodying virtues that promote honesty, respect, compassion, courage and love of country in everyday life.
“In a time when the world is changing rapidly, we must return to values that should not change: honesty in word and deed, respect for others, concern for those in need, courage to stand up for what is right, and love for our country,” Dy said in a video message.
He urged Filipinos to “choose to be good” at “every opportunity,” saying a stronger and more prosperous Philippines could not be built by leaders alone but through the concern and determination of every citizen. By helping those in need, Dy said Filipinos could continue the legacy of national heroes and uphold the rights they fought for.
“We just have to choose to be good Filipinos — every day, in every opportunity. Because a more prosperous and strong Philippines is not built only by leaders. It is built by every Filipino with concern and determination,” he said.
“Now, it is our turn to continue that legacy. This is the true face of heroism in our time,” Dy added.
