A boat capsized Mapanuepe Lake, leaving six people dead, while three others still missing at Brgy. Buhawen in the town of San Marcelino, Zambales on 27 August 2026

Initial report stated that around 4:40pm of Thursday, 13 people were aboard a motorized banca crossing Mapanuepe Lake on their way home to Sitio Lumibao from Buhawen Proper.

The group just had their vaccination at the Barangay Center and attended a 4Ps meeting. As they group was on their way home, the motorized banca reportedly overturned due to overloading.

Four of the victims survived, while Six of them perished, including three adults and three children. Three more went missing, including a 5-year-old, 12-year-old, and one pregnant adult.

Authorities are still identifying the victims and are conducting a search and rescue operation at the said lake.
