Vice President Sara Duterte's defense spokesperson Michael Poa on Monday denied reports that she wants to speak with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., dismissing the claim as "fake news" as her impeachment trial continued.

"Fake news. Parang 'yung binato ako ng laptop o kung ano man, it's also fake news. So, fake news po 'yan," Poa told reporters during a break in the proceedings.

The denial came after Malacañang last week said it could not confirm reports that Duterte had sought a private meeting with Marcos.

"There is nothing we can confirm about that because no information has been passed on to us regarding whether such an event actually took place. For now, we have nothing to confirm," Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said at a briefing.

Poa did not elaborate on the report or say whether Duterte had any plans to meet Marcos.

Poa also referred to an earlier report alleging that Duterte had thrown a laptop at him, which he likewise denied. Duterte herself rejected the allegation in an interview in The Hague.###
