CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A person of interest in the killing of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose mutilated body was found in an advanced state of decomposition near a creek in a pineapple plantation in Libona, Bukidnon, died by suicide after jumping off a bridge in Impasugong, Bukidnon, early Saturday evening.

The man, identified through his driver’s license and the registration of his motorcycle as Fritz Quijanoloa, 31, of Barangay Poblacion, Libona, was the live-in partner of the victim and had been sought by the Libona Police Station in connection with the murder.

Witnesses said Quijanoloa parked his Honda XRM motorcycle at around 6 p.m. beside the Atugan Bridge in Barangay Capitan Bayong, Impasugong, before jumping from the bridge, described as one of the highest bridges in the country.

Police Capt. Edwin Tabequero, officer-in-charge of the Libona Police Station, said Quijanoloa was last seen alive on 26 July, when she left their house with two other men. She was reported missing along with her live-in partner, who later became a person of interest in the murder investigation.

Pineapple plantation workers discovered the victim’s body near a creek at Field 11 in Barangay Poblacion and reported the gruesome find to police.

Tabequero said the body was initially mistaken for that of a man because of the advanced stage of decomposition. Relatives later identified the victim as a woman through a tattoo on her right arm. The body was found naked and with signs of mutilation.

Witnesses also reported that the victim had an argument at their house, about five kilometers from where the body was discovered, in the week before her death.
