Town launches free scholar rides

VICTORIA, Oriental Mindoro — Municipal scholars in Victoria will begin receiving free transportation on Monday under a local government program intended to ease students’ daily expenses.
The initiative, called Project RVI, or Ruta para sa Victoreñong Iskolar, will provide qualified scholars with one trip in the morning and another in the afternoon.
Mayor Richard V. Inciong said the program was designed to help students who struggle to pay for transportation from their limited daily allowances. The savings could instead go toward food and other essential needs.
The municipal government is implementing the program in partnership with Mindoro State University, headed by university president Dr. Enya Marie D. Apostol. The service will cover transportation within the municipality and is expected to benefit scholars attending classes at the university’s Victoria campus.
Under the theme “Bawat Paglalakbay Patungo sa Tagumpay,” Project RVI aims to make education more accessible by reducing the cost of commuting for students and their families.
The local government has yet to announce the total number of beneficiaries, full transport routes or the program’s operating budget.
The scheduled launch on 19 October will mark the start of the municipality’s planned transportation assistance for its scholars.
