  • Authorities recovered suspected explosive materials and improvised explosive device (IED) components during an operation in Casiguran, Sorsogon, on 6 August 2026.

In a belated report on August, the PNP said the operation resulted in the recovery of various suspected IED components, including electric blasting caps, capacitors, battery holders, improvised hand grenades, electrical components, wires and other materials associated with the assembly of improvised explosive devices.

The PNP said the recovered items have been placed under the custody of the Sorsogon Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit for proper documentation, examination and disposition.

"The operation highlights the value of timely intelligence and close coordination among law enforcement and security forces in identifying and addressing potential threats before they reach communities. It is consistent with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes responsive, coordinated, and intelligence-based police action," the PNP said.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the recovery should be viewed primarily as a preventive measure aimed at keeping communities safe.

"Ang mahalaga rito, naagapan natin. Hindi natin hinihintay na may mangyaring masama bago tayo kumilos. Kapag may impormasyon na maaaring may banta sa seguridad, trabaho nating siyasatin ito agad at kumilos nang maingat at naaayon sa batas," Nartatez said.

He also underscored the importance of sustained cooperation among government security forces and the public in keeping potentially dangerous materials away from situations where they could cause harm.

The operation supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s continuing call for a safer and more secure Philippines by strengthening the capability of government forces to respond to security concerns through lawful, coordinated and preventive action.

The PNP likewise encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious activities or the presence of potentially dangerous materials through the Unified 911 emergency hotline or the nearest police station. Information provided by citizens will be treated with due confidentiality and handled in accordance with established procedures, helping authorities respond promptly to concerns that may affect public safety.
