The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has called on the producers of It’s Showtime to explain complaints stemming from the program’s July 24 episode, placing the long-running noontime show under regulatory review.

In a notice dated July 28, the MTRCB directed representatives of GMA Network Inc. and ABS-CBN Corporation to appear before its Hearing and Adjudication Committee after receiving multiple viewer complaints and findings from its own Monitoring and Inspection Unit.

The complaints center on a segment involving host Vice Ganda that was alleged to contain inappropriate and racially insensitive material. The agency said the matter would be discussed during a hearing scheduled for July 29 at the MTRCB office.

The hearing will allow the program’s producers to respond to the issues raised before the board determines whether any action or sanctions are warranted under existing broadcast regulations.
