Housing is probably the biggest issue affecting people the world over.

In Spain, an 87-year-old woman was evicted from the apartment she had rented for decades after she could no longer afford to pay the increased rent. This sparked protests against the high cost of housing across Spain.

In Arizona, USA, a homeowner lost his job after he contracted diabetes in 2024 and fell behind in his quarterly association dues.

Toby Newton asked the Superstition Springs Community Master Association to let him pay $200 a month until his $977 arrears were fully paid, but this was rejected and the association initiated foreclosure proceedings, the New York Post (NYP) reported.

As the case dragged on, Newton’s debt rose to $1,311 and he faced more than $4,000 in litigation fees.

The home he bought for $455,000 in 2022 was ultimately sold at public auction in October 2025 and was won by the association for just $8,172, according to NYP.

Meanwhile, a widow in California recently put her house up for rent. A woman contacted her, offering to repair the house and look after it in exchange for rent.

The widow had yet to agree to the arrangement when the woman suddenly moved into the house. The homeowner called her son for help, but police told Flash Shelton the matter was no longer trespassing but a squatting issue that should be handled by the court, Yahoo! News reported.

Shelton shared his mother’s predicament and the solution they came up with in a YouTube post.

Not wanting to spend on costly litigation to evict the squatter, Shelton had his mom lease the home to him, and he then told the squatter that she had to move everything out because he was moving things in, according to Yahoo! News.

The squatter did not put up a fight, Shelton said, and moved out.
