Julia Montes has opened up about her emotional first meeting with actress Katherine Luna, saying compassion and forgiveness helped pave the way for a fresh start.
In a recent interview with Ogie Diaz alongside Coco Martin, the longtime couple shared why they decided to help Katherine after watching her public apology. They said they were moved by her sincerity and reached out to support her as she worked to rebuild her life and career.
For Coco, Katherine's apology marked the end of a painful chapter.
"Na-touch talaga ako nung humingi siya ng sorry. Kahit gaano kasakit ang nangyari noon, iba pa rin kapag may taong nagpapakumbaba at humihingi ng tawad."
The actor said he no longer harbored resentment after seeing Katherine take responsibility for the past. He later cast her in the television series Sigabo, giving her a substantial role, while the production also helped with her medical needs, including treatment for an eye condition.
"Nung nagkita kami, parang wala na. Wala nang sama ng loob. Nabura lahat."
Julia recalled that their first meeting was filled with emotion, saying Katherine repeatedly apologized and thanked her.
"Sorry lang siya nang sorry at thank you nang thank you. Napakabait niya at nahihiya pa siya sa akin."
Although Julia was already aware of Katherine's history with Coco, she said she approached the meeting with understanding rather than judgment.
The interview also offered a rare glimpse into the foundation of Julia and Coco's long-running relationship. Asked what has kept them together over the years, the couple pointed to mutual respect.
"Yung respeto sa isa't isa ang pinakamahalaga. Maraming definition ang love, pero ang respeto, malinaw kung ano iyon," Coco said.
Their story underscored the importance of humility, forgiveness, and giving people a second chance.
