The Bureau of Immigration (BI), in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other law enforcement and intelligence units, arrested a Mongolian national in Iba, Zambales, over alleged activities deemed a threat to national security.

Operatives from the BI Intelligence Division–Special Response Team, supported by elements of the 69th Infantry Battalion under the 7th Infantry Division of the AFP, conducted a joint operation on 12 February at an aviation school in Barangay Lipay Dingin, Iba.

The operation also involved the Iba Municipal Police Station, the Zambales Police Provincial Office, CIDG Region 3, RIU 3, PNP Internal Affairs, PRO 3, and other government intelligence agencies.

Authorities identified the arrested foreign national as Boldbaatar Bold-Erdene, 30, a graduating pilot student at the aviation academy. The BI described him as an undesirable alien for allegedly posing a risk to public interest and safety.

According to official intelligence, Bold-Erdene previously graduated as a jet fighter pilot and is suspected of having ties to the Chinese government. During flight exercises, he allegedly conducted aerial photography of Iba Airport and the nearby Palauig River area, about five nautical miles from the airport.

The BI emphasized that foreign nationals engaging in activities inconsistent with their visa status, particularly those with potential national security implications, will face immediate action.

“The Philippines will not allow its institutions, including civilian training facilities, to be used for activities that may compromise national security,” the Bureau said. “Foreign nationals must strictly adhere to the conditions of their stay.”

After his arrest, Bold-Erdene was transported to the BI main office in Manila for booking, medical examination, and biometric processing. He was later transferred to the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility pending deportation proceedings.
