The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it has successfully intercepted over P20 million worth of allegedly smuggled cigarettes in a major anti-smuggling operation in Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City, in its recent operations.
The coordinated raid, conducted by the City Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) in collaboration with the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG), PRO 9, and ZCPS12 on 23 October, resulted in the confiscation of 355 master cases of suspected contraband cigarettes. The haul included 249 Black Hawk and 106 San Marino master cases, with an estimated market value of P20,341,500.
The seized items are now under the custody of the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
PNP Acting Chief PLtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units for their swift coordination and precision, emphasizing that the operation sends a clear message to smugglers.
“The PNP remains resolute in its commitment to enforce the law and dismantle networks that profit from illicit trade. Each operation is a step toward a more secure and accountable society, where no illegal enterprise can thrive under the radar of the law,” he said.
Nartatez said the operation reinforces the PNP’s Focused Agenda, which prioritizes the Management of Resources, Morale and Welfare, Enhanced Managing Police Operations, Integrity Monitoring, and Active Community Support, ensuring stronger operational efficiency and community trust.
