GMA Network is gearing up for a groundbreaking new action-drama series, Never Say Die, bringing together rising stars Jillian Ward and David Licauco in their first-ever on-screen pairing. The series not only marks a fresh collaboration but also a bold leap into more mature, physically demanding roles for both actors.

Ward, long known for her youthful charm, is embracing a transformation—this time as a fearless and strong female lead. The young actress has been undergoing rigorous training to portray her character with authenticity and grit.

Nakapag-train na po ako paano humawak ng baril properly, pati footwork sa fight scenes, ‘yung mga galawan sa action scenes, pinag-aaralan ko talaga,” Jillian shared in an interview with GMA News, emphasizing her dedication to mastering stunt choreography and firearms handling.

For Licauco, the role is a significant shift from his previous work, particularly his fan-favorite love team with Barbie Forteza. “To be honest, hindi ako sanay na wala si Barbie. The past three teleseryes ko, lagi kong kasama si Barbie at si Dennis [Trillo]—‘yun ‘yung naging comfort zone ko,” he admitted. “But I’m excited. It’s a challenge I’m ready for.”

To prepare for his role, David has thrown himself into a mix of physical training—from hitting the gym to revisiting his boxing regimen and learning arnis, a traditional Filipino martial art. “Right after the GMA Gala, the next day training agad. Physical conditioning talaga ‘yung focus,” he said.

Helmed by esteemed director Dominic Zapata, Never Say Die boasts a powerhouse cast that blends established icons with rising stars. Joining Ward and Licauco are international actor Kim Ji Soo, newcomer Raheel Bhyria, and seasoned names such as Richard Yap, Gina Alajar, Raymart Santiago, Angelu De Leon, Wendell Ramos, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Analyn Barro, Tanjo Villoso, and Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee.

Richard Yap teased a dramatic turn in the series. “People will hate me, but that’s the reaction I’d like to get because this is something completely different from the usual roles I play,” he revealed, hinting at a character that could spark controversy and conversation.

Raheel Bhyria described his role as deeply emotional and layered. “Best friend ko siya [Jillian] diyan. Ako ‘yung emotional anchor niya, though tinatago ko lang ‘yung feelings ko through humor and loyalty,” he said, suggesting a potential slow-burn subplot.

Meanwhile, Ji Soo expressed his excitement to reunite with Jillian, following their previous on-screen projects. “We’re already close, so it feels familiar. It’s really good to work with her again—and David too,” the South Korean actor said.

The cast has already begun script readings, building early chemistry and alignment with Director Zapata’s creative vision. While Ward admits to feeling a bit nervous stepping into her more mature character, she’s fully committed to growing as an actress. “It’s a new challenge, and I’m ready to take it on,” she said.

Both leads are coming off notable projects: Jillian recently headlined My Ilonggo Girl and appeared in Mga Batang Riles, while David starred in the historical drama Pulang Araw and makes a special appearance in Beauty Empire.

As the production kicks into full gear, Never Say Die is shaping up to be a bold new entry in GMA’s primetime lineup—a story of resilience, action, and emotional depth. With a diverse ensemble cast and a fresh lead pairing, the series promises to push the envelope in both storytelling and performance.
