The local government of San Juan City — in partnership with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) — signed on Wednesday a tripartite memorandum of agreement and inaugurated the San Juan City Linear Park in front of the San Luis Pumping Station.

The neighborhood upgrade project using nature-based solutions along the San Juan River easement aims to revitalize underutilized spaces, transforming them into a vibrant, community-driven linear park.

It will integrate features such as vertical gardens, rainwater harvesting systems, cisterns, rain gardens and community pavilions.

Designed to enhance environmental sustainability, this initiative utilizes nature-based solutions to improve waterway easements while providing green, eco-friendly spaces for social interaction, recreation and environmental education.

“We are proud to be part of this transformative project that will benefit not only the residents of San Juan but also the entire Metro Manila community,” said San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora.

“The San Juan City Linear Park is a perfect example of how we can integrate nature into urban spaces, as this project is a significant step towards creating more sustainable, green spaces that promote environmental consciousness and provide our residents with a healthy place to gather, relax and connect with nature,” he added.

Meantime, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the city government also inaugurated the Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station in San Juan City, located along F. Manalo Street, Barangay Batis.

The newly established PCG Sub-Station will strengthen maritime safety measures, disaster response capabilities and other PCG mandates within San Juan.

“The Coast Guard has been a critical partner in our city, particularly during typhoons and flood-related emergencies. Their presence in San Juan will ensure faster, more effective responses to maritime and water-related emergencies, ultimately safeguarding our residents, especially those in flood-prone areas,” he said.

“This sub-station is an important milestone in our commitment to community safety and disaster resilience,” he added.
