San Miguel Beer head coach Leo Austria admitted that he is clueless on what to expect in the upcoming East Asia Super League (EASL) Terrific 12 Invitational Basketball Tournament set to unfold next week in Macau.
The Beermen are one of the three Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) teams entered in the tough tournament that draws the best of the best from China, Japan, Philippines and South Korea.
“It will really be hard for us because this will be the first time we’ll be joining the tournament,” said Austria as his team is using the EASL joust as preparation for the coming Governors’ Cup where San Miguel is seeking a rare grand slam.
“It’s like going to a battle but you do not know the terrain. We’re trying our best to scout the opponents through YouTube and study their strength and weaknesses,” he added.

The Beermen are in Group B along with Shenzhen Aviators of China and Japan’s Ryukyu Golden Kings.
Lester Prosper and Denz Wells, who will be their reinforcement for the coming season-ending conference, were tapped to power the Beermen.
Gilas Pilipinas center June Mar Fajardo is joining the Macau trip, but according to Austria, his status to suit up in the tournament will depend on the situation.
“June Mar is still nursing an (ankle) injury he got from the World Cup. He will join us but whether he will play or not depends on the situation,” Austria said.
“But we’re going there not just to participate. If we have a chance to win, why not?”
The EASL Terrific 12 tournament offers $150,000 cash prize to the champion team, $100,000 to the runner-up and $50,000 to the third-placer.
Blackwater is returning to the tournament and is bracketed in Group A along with Japan’s Chiba Jets and Seoul SK Knights of Korea. TNT KaTropa is the third PBA team in the field and is group with tournament favorite Liaoning Flying Leopards of China and Niigata Albirex of Japan.
