ROMBLON — The provincial government of Romblon has established a Provincial Cybercrime Office under a new ordinance aimed at strengthening the province’s response to online scams, identity theft and other technology-related offenses.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Provincial Ordinance No. 25, Series of 2026, during its 35th regular session on 9 October.

The ordinance provides for a provincial office that will assist in cybercrime investigations, digital evidence examination and recovery, and the protection of government information systems and digital infrastructure.

The office is expected to coordinate with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group and the Provincial Cybercrime Response Team under the operational supervision of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit MIMAROPA.

Its functions include providing technical assistance in cybercrime investigations, recommending cybersecurity policies and supporting programs intended to improve public awareness of digital threats.

The ordinance also provides for operational and technical funding, including communications, internet connectivity, transportation and equipment maintenance.
