BJMP chief director Efren Nemeño and PhilHealth president Dr. Beverly Ho signed the agreement, which was welcomed by PDLs and their families.
Nemeño described the partnership as more than a formal agreement, calling it a milestone in inter-agency cooperation and a renewed commitment to ensuring that PDLs have better access to quality, responsive and inclusive health care services and PhilHealth benefits.
He said the agreement reinforces the shared responsibility of the two agencies in addressing the health needs of PDLs, ensuring continuity of care and advancing the principles of Universal Health Care and human dignity.
BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said the agency is also implementing medical interventions and decongestion measures at its jail facilities, with services provided free of charge, to make conditions for PDLs “less uncomfortable.”
These measures, he said, are also aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases and reducing other health risks in BJMP-supervised jails.
