Mynt IPO can boost capital market, expand retail investing, says solon

The scheduled initial public offering of GCash parent Mynt Inc. could provide a vital boost to the Philippine capital market by drawing millions of digital finance users into stock-market investing, a lawmaker said.
Representative Jan "JP" Padiernos, a member for the majority of the House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries, said about 49 million Filipinos—roughly 42 percent of the country’s population—use GCash.
This massive user base positions Mynt for what could become one of the largest IPOs in Philippine corporate history.
The scale of the GCash ecosystem carries added importance as the economy experiences slower growth momentum.
The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that second-quarter gross domestic product grew by 2.3 percent in 2026, while gross capital formation contracted by 9.2 percent.
Padiernos said these figures underscore the need for investment, business expansion, and stronger participation in capital markets.
"Against this backdrop, Mynt’s IPO could provide a fresh avenue for both institutional and retail investors to participate in the growth of a homegrown digital-finance company," Padiernos said.
The offering features a maximum indicative price of ₱10 per share, with the IPO expected to raise up to ₱92.3 billion through a mix of primary and secondary shares.
The final price, determined via book building, could be lowered to ₱8.50 or ₱7.50 per share. The primary offering is projected to generate about ₱14.95 billion in net proceeds for digital expansion and corporate purposes.
Mynt reported ₱79.8 billion in revenue and ₱17.2 billion in profit in 2025. Beyond payments, its ecosystem spans merchant transactions, insurance, wealth management, and lending through Fuse Financing, which reported ₱362 billion in cumulative loans disbursed to over 10.5 million unique borrowers by 2025.
On the investment front, GStocks PH recorded 1.7 million users in 2025, with Mynt accounting for 53% of online retail stock-market accounts at the Philippine Stock Exchange.
Padiernos noted that more than 78% of GCash users reside outside Metro Manila, spanning lower-income households with historically limited access to conventional financial institutions.
If finalized, Mynt is expected to become the Philippines' first listed fintech company.
"The GCash IPO, therefore, is more than a large corporate transaction," Padiernos said. "It could become a bridge between the 49 million Filipinos already participating in the GCash digital economy and a Philippine capital market that needs more investors, more investment, and broader public participation in corporate ownership."
