CEBU CITY — The province marked its 457th founding anniversary on Saturday with "Halad sa Pagtuo 2026," a grand celebration of faith, culture and tradition at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The event featured a procession of carrozas from participating cities and municipalities, displaying patron saints and religious images from across the province.

Organized under the leadership of Gov. Pam Baricuatro, the gathering aimed to preserve Cebu's Catholic heritage and foster unity among local communities.

Religious elders praised the governor's support for local traditions.

"She has shown that being a public servant means being with the people and understanding what is important to their hearts," local religious leaders said in a statement, calling her a compassionate leader.

Baricuatro stressed the cultural significance of the annual event.

"Halad sa Pagtuo is a celebration of who we are as Cebuanos," Baricuatro said. "It is our faith, our culture, our traditions and our shared love for Cebu."

The governor thanked local government units, parishes, religious leaders, volunteers and thousands of attendees for their participation.

"Your devotion, energy and unity made this celebration special," Baricuatro said. "Padayon ta, mga Sugboanon, sa pagtuo, paghiusa ug paghigugma sa atong Sugbo."

Organizers said the successful staging of the event highlighted the province's ongoing commitment to its cultural identity and community spirit.
