  • Several people were injured after a three-vehicle collision involving a police officer, a businessman, and a passenger bus along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Palattao, Naguilian, Isabela, on Monday evening, 3 August.

Police said the crash occurred at around 8:05 p.m. in front of La Familia Restaurant.

Initial investigation showed that a metallic gray Nissan Almera driven by Police Corporal Jeff Pascua Estrada, 32, of the Ilagan Component City Police Station, was traveling northbound when it was rear-ended by a dark gray Toyota Fortuner driven by businessman Elpidio Flores Bulauan, 67, of Ilagan City.

The impact caused the Fortuner to lose control, cross into the opposite lane, and collide head-on with a southbound Partas bus driven by Frederick Velasquez Delfin, 33, of Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya. The bus swerved across the highway before coming to a stop, while the Fortuner ended up facing the opposite direction.

Authorities said Bulauan and his passengers sustained injuries and were rushed by the Naguilian Rescue Team to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The Nissan Almera, Toyota Fortuner, and Partas bus all sustained damage, the cost of which has yet to be determined. The vehicles were towed to the Naguilian Municipal Police Station as investigators completed their on-site investigation at around 10:30 p.m.
