Content creator and actress Ivana Alawi has come under fire online after the mechanics of her much-publicized iPhone giveaway drew criticism from social media users.
Earlier this month, Ivana announced that she would be giving away 100 iPhone 17 units to her followers, sharing a video of herself purchasing the smartphones worth millions of pesos. She said she wanted to make more people happy by giving them a chance to own the latest devices.
However, the giveaway soon became the subject of debate after participants were instructed to follow the Facebook page of an online gaming platform that she endorses before they could qualify for the raffle.
While the post generated massive engagement, amassing millions of reactions and comments within days, some netizens questioned whether the promotional requirement could encourage more people to engage with gambling-related content.
Others defended Ivana, pointing to her long history of charitable giveaways and financial assistance for ordinary Filipinos, saying the giveaway was consistent with her generous online persona rather than an attempt to promote gambling.
As of this writing, Ivana has not publicly responded to the criticism surrounding the giveaway mechanics.
