BAGUIO CITY — Several parts of the Cordillera Region have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 due to the threat of Tropical Depression "Kiyapo."

The placement of these areas under TCWS No. 1 was prompted by the latest weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as of 5:00 a.m. on July 23, 2026.

The affected areas include the entire provinces of Apayao, Abra, and Kalinga. Signal No. 1 is also hoisted over the eastern and central portions of Mountain Province, covering the municipalities of Paracelis, Natonin, Barlig, Sadanga, Bontoc, Besao, and Sagada, as well as the eastern and central portions of Ifugao, including Mayoyao, Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista, Banaue, Hingyon, and Lagawe.

Under TCWS No. 1, strong winds from the tropical cyclone are expected to affect the designated areas within 36 hours. State weather bureau PAGASA issues these wind signals in advance to alert the public and give local communities sufficient time to prepare for potential impacts.

PAGASA also reminded residents that wind signal classifications are based strictly on expected wind speeds rather than the volume or intensity of rainfall.
