More than 8,000 people participated in a charity run organized by the non-profit group Angat Buhay in Makati on Sunday, raising funds for community development programs.
During the event, Angat Buhay chairperson and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo announced plans to expand the fundraising initiative to three more cities later this year.
The Angat Bayanihan Run took place before dawn at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, coinciding with the city’s weekly Car-Free Sunday initiative.
Organized in partnership with the running group We Ken Run, the event featured races ranging from 1 to 10 kilometers, alongside a fun walk and a dog run.
Angat Bayanihan RunAddressing the crowd, Robredo thanked the runners, volunteers, and organizers. She said public support has allowed Angat Buhay to sustain relief and rehabilitation efforts in disaster-stricken areas, including communities recently affected by earthquakes in General Santos City, Davao, and Sarangani province.
“Our Angat Bayanihan volunteers are still carrying out relief and rehabilitation efforts, and they are able to do that because of your help,” Robredo said.
The fundraising run will expand to provincial venues later this year, with events scheduled in Naga City on 16 August, Iloilo on 18 October and General Santos City on 29 November.
Robredo added that the organization aims to bring the run to 10 cities next year to broaden its volunteer network and fundraising capabilities.
