Fresh off the successful staging of the Galaxy Manila Marathon, RUNRIO Inc. has reaffirmed its commitment to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in support of the agency’s environmental and disaster preparedness efforts.
RUNRIO president and chief executive officer Rio dela Cruz personally handed the donation to MMDA chairman Atty. Romando Artes and fellow officials on Monday, continuing its pledge to support the agency beyond race day.
“We are thankful to chairman Artes and the MMDA as their support has been instrumental in allowing us to safely organize world-class running events, including the Galaxy Manila Marathon on EDSA,” Dela Cruz said.
“This donation is our own little way of giving back and backing the agency’s efforts to keep Metro Manila clean and prepared.”
The donation consisted of 200 shovels, 400 pairs of rubber boots, 500 pairs of heavy-duty utility gloves, and 120 durable trash bins, all of which will be used for the MMDA’s regular cleaning operations and other environmental protection and disaster response initiatives aimed at keeping Metro Manila’s waterways clear and helping mitigate flooding.
It’s the next step in the partnership between RUNRIO and the MMDA, with the two parties continuing to support one another.
The MMDA played a key role in staging some of the country’s most successful road races, with the most notable being the Galaxy Manila Marathon, where thousands of runners traversed EDSA for the first time in a full marathon.
Beyond organizing races, dela Cruz said that RUNRIO remains committed to creating a positive impact in the communities where it operates through initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, public wellness, and responsible sports tourism.
