The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned a tricycle driver caught on video driving dangerously with his sidecar lifted completely off the ground along a major Quezon City highway.
The viral video showed the tricycle speeding along Congressional Avenue while balanced precariously on only two wheels.
Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit officers tracked down the 41-year-old driver, who claimed he performed the maneuver because his sidecar had a flat tire.
“The best thing to do would have been to pull over and ask for help,” said Police Lt. Charly dela Cruz, deputy commander of QCPD Traffic Sector 6.
An LTO investigation revealed a string of additional violations. The vehicle lacked a license plate and was operating illegally on a national highway, where tricycles are prohibited.
Furthermore, the driver failed to present a driver’s license and provided an expired vehicle registration.
While no injuries were reported, police impounded the tricycle after discovering it was a “colorum” vehicle operating without a public utility franchise.
“We found out that it does not have a franchise,” Dela Cruz said. “So we immediately coordinated with the Tricycle Regulatory Division of City Hall and turned over the tricycle.”
The driver faces multiple traffic citations and penalties from both local transport regulators and the LTO.
