Authorities intercepted more than P38.6 million worth of suspected shabu during a drug interdiction operation at a parcel hub in Pasay City on 31 March.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said operatives of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group flagged three inbound parcels at the Central Mail Exchange Center and a courier facility, which were later found abandoned. Inspection revealed about 5,691 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P38,698,800.

Records showed the parcels were addressed to different consignees, including Filipino and foreign-linked identities, and originated from Canada, Pakistan, and Zambia.

The seized drugs were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for proper handling, while follow-up investigations are underway for possible violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities will tighten monitoring of logistics channels.

“Hindi tayo papayag na gamitin ang ating mga courier at mail systems para makalusot ang ilegal na droga. Mas magiging mahigpit ang ating pagbabantay. Our message is clear—there is no safe entry point for illegal drugs in this country,” he said.
