A rider died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along Manila East Road in Barangay Lagundi, Morong, Rizal early Sunday morning.

Based on investigation, the Yamaha Mio driven by the victim and the Toyota Fortuner were traversing in opposite directions.

The rider was coming from Baras heading towards Morong and was allegedly traveling from Bicol to Manila, while the SUV was coming from Morong heading towards Baras.

Further investigation showed that the SUV was continuously traversing its proper lane, while the rider of the vehicle allegedly fell asleep, resulting in counterflow and occupation of the opposite lane. As a result, the motorcycle swerved and bumped with the SUV.

The 33-year-old rider was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old driver of the SUV, including his passengers, were unharmed during the said incident.

Charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injuries, and damage to property will be filed against the SUV driver.
