VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental — A 21-year-old student and his 18-year-old girlfriend were killed after the motorcycle they were riding rear-ended a gasoline tanker, throwing them into the opposite lane where a 10-wheeler truck ran over them on Friday.
Police Lt. Ronie Donasco, deputy chief of the Villanueva Municipal Police Station, said the victims, identified only by the alias Nelson and his girlfriend, died in the accident that occurred on the outskirts of the town.
Investigation showed that the couple, who were riding tandem, were trailing a gasoline tanker that made a U-turn to enter a garage when their motorcycle slammed into the rear of the truck.
The impact hurled the victims into the opposite lane, where a 10-wheeler truck loaded with soft drinks ran over them.
The victims, who were not wearing helmets, sustained severe head and body injuries and were declared dead at the scene.
Authorities said the two truck drivers are now under police custody pending the filing of charges for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide.
