BOKOD, Benguet — The municipal government of Bokod, Benguet, is already fed up with reminding people to be responsible enough in disposing of their waste.
A ₱5,000 reward will be given to individuals who catch anyone illegally dumping waste in Ambuklao, Bokod. According to Bokod Mayor Erik Don Ignacio, witnesses will receive the reward by presenting videos or photos of individuals caught improperly disposing of their trash.
The mayor said that continuous cleanup efforts by residents are insufficient if large volumes of garbage continue to be collected. He explained that the reward system is being implemented to incentivize witnesses to help apprehend violators of Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act. Ignacio also shared that the local government is installing CCTV cameras along the national road to better monitor irresponsible individuals.
He added that while photos circulating on social media do not affect them, they serve as a “wake-up call” for individuals, especially travelers passing through the Ambuklao Dam, who improperly dispose of their waste. He further emphasized that the trash does not affect their primary product, tilapia, as the water in the dam is flowing.
